Feed the Kids Program

The Common Ground Network  is a local community organization comprised of churches, civic groups, the City of Mansfield, MISD, and local food banks.  They create, organize and direct programs to serve the children of our community.  Our local Kiwanis clubs, as well as Kiwanis clubs internationally, focus on serving needy children, so it was a natural fit when The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield partnered with Common Ground in 2007.

Feed the Kids Program

Feed the Kids Food Pantry

The Mansfield community, like so many others, provides a free and reduced cost breakfast and lunch program through our school system to address the nutritional needs of under privileged children.  This support ends when school is out for the summer, leaving these children without an adequate supply of food.   In 2006 Common Ground created a way to help feed these children during the summer by creating the Feed the Kids Program.  It was a primitive and very small program that year, run by just a few folks with big hearts and a dream to help these children. Money for this program was in very short supply until The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield heard about the efforts of Common Ground and joined forces to meet the needs of these children. The following year The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield provided substantial financial resources and participation to support the Feed the Kids Program. The number of children served has increased more than four fold since its inception. The bags provided to these children every week include enough food for 5 days.

The food is “child friendly” and nutritious.  Feed the Kids has now expanded to be a “feed and read” mission thanks to the donation for books from the local Rotary Club.  The Common Ground Network is also active in providing school supplies to the children of the MISD, they organize activities to help needy children during the Christmas season and work with the school PTA organizations.  Common Ground continues to grow in its service thanks to organizations like The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield and compassionate citizens in our community. The members of the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield are proud to serve Mansfield children in partnership with Common Ground Network.
