September 2017 Student of the Month: Gloria Calderon
On Friday, September 8, 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield was honored to recognize a Student of the Month for September 2017: Gloria Calderon. Gloria is a senior at Mansfield Frontier High School and is the President of her Key Club. She is also active in the Student Council currently serving as the Parliamentarian and previously served as a Vice President while a junior. Gloria is very active in her church. She is especially active with her church’s children’s ministry and started a “dance” club for the children. Gloria also works at Sonic and in her spare time enjoys bowling.
After graduation, Gloria plans to attend Dallas Baptist University and hopes to become a doctor. Also in attendance for her receipt of the Student of the Month Award was her father, Jorge Calderon.
September 2017 Student of the Month: Emma Tran
The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield was also honored to recognize Emma Tran as Student of the Month for September 2017. Emma is a senior at Mansfield High School, has an estimated GPA of 103.32 and is currently ranked 5th in her class of 566 students. She is President of her Key Club, Captain of the Debate and Speech Club, Secretary of Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Asian American Student Association, and a member of the Bell Guard. Emma also participates in UIL Academic competitions, a committee person for Mansfield Speaks, started Tutoring Tuesdays at Martha Reed Elementary last year, and raises funds for The Movement, an organization that helps individuals in Vietnam.
After graduation, Emma plans to attend college and is narrowing her choice from the following universities: UT, UTA, UTD, A&M, SMU, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvard, Stanford, and UPenn.
In her free time, Emma enjoys playing sand volleyball, reading, hanging out with friends and spending time/helping out with her family at Temple. Also in attendance for her receipt of the Student of the Month Award were her parents, Tai Tran and Hoang Ly.
The Mansfield Kiwanis are extremely proud to recognize these two outstanding students as Students of the Month. We know each of you will accomplish wonderful things in the future and wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. We also hope that you will consider becoming part of the “K Family” after your graduation from high school by joining a Circle K or Kiwanis Club.
