96th Texas-Oklahoma District Convention

I’m excited to report that the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield was well represented at the 96th Annual Texas-Oklahoma District Convention held in Midwest City, OK during August 7 – 9, 2014.  Lt. Gov. Claude Cunningham and I attended the convention as the official delegates for our Club.

In addition to providing educational training forums for club growth, club leadership, and fundraising, the convention also offered the attendees the opportunities to meet fellow Kiwanians from around the district and share club stories and ideas.  Each club member should consider attending a Kiwanis convention or conference, whether International or District, because the experience of meeting fellow Kiwanians and sharing stories gives you a renewed excitement (and insight) when you hear how other clubs are being successful serving their communities.  Speaking of conventions, mark your calendars to celebrate Kiwanis International’s 100th Anniversary and attend the international convention in Indianapolis, IN in June 2015!

District business was conducted in the General/Delegate Session on Saturday, August 9th.  The Delegate Session was comprised of a total of 255 delegates from 125 Kiwanis Clubs in the T-O District.  Our club was fortunate to send 2 delegates to the convention; however, 39 clubs were able to send a full slate of 3 delegates.  The Delegate Session proved to be challenging as the delegates debated an amendment to the T-O District Bylaws that would allow for a change in the governance structure for the district.  I look forward to giving you more details on the Delegate Session and the vote at our next meeting.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Friday morning!
